How can I split my bands to connect to 2.4Ghz or 5Ghz separately?
If you’re looking for your devices to only connect to a particular frequency, you might consider splitting your 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz bands to make this possible.
The 5GHz band is best-suited for faster speed over a shorter distance. The 2.4GHz band typically offers a longer range at slightly slower speeds. Not all your devices are capable of either.
Follow the steps below to change these settings.
splitting the bands using a web browser
1) Log in to your router settings
2) On the bottom left hand side of the dashboard, select ‘wi-fi settings’ under ‘router settings’

3) A new page will appear, choose the ‘wireless header’ along the top and then click ‘show more’

4) You’ll then have the 2.5Ghz and 5Ghz options loaded to make your changes to either the name or password for either one

5) After you’ve made your changes, click ‘apply’
6) A pop-up window will appear with a warning, select ‘use different names’ to continue

7) Another window will appear summarising the changes you’ve made, select ‘yes’ to continue

8) You’ll receive a final pop-up box warning the router will restart to make the changes, select ‘ok’

9) Your router will reboot and the settings will be fully implemented
